It hurts, literally hurts to not give this book a higher rating! But even the best of writers (and I do love most of Tijan's books) have a clunker now and then, I guess. The reasons for this rating?Addison is absolutely the most needy, clingy heroine I have EVER read!! Seriously! Pull your hair out scream at the page at the insult to womanhood clingy!For all of those 5 star-raters, let me prove my point. She lost her husband a year ago, is still mourning (understandable) She doesn't have a job nor does she do anything to get one. She would rather spend her time in the house thinking of her late husband day and night. Then, when she is finally pushed into at least moving into an apartment where she can get on with her life, she sees a super hot guy a couple of times in passing and exchanges small talk ONE time. The very next time she sees him they go straight to her apartment and have sex... huh???? From then on he is all she can think about (and remember, she doesn't have a job so she is at home doing nothing BUT obsessing over him.) They have another night of wild sex (that makes a total of TWO.) The next morning he leaves and she doesn't see from him for a MONTH! Then, suddenly, someone shows up at her door and says he'd like for her to join him in New York for ONE NIGHT. She immediately agrees, flies there and - yep, another night of sex. The next morning he sends her home while he stays. In fact, Addison only knows that he is home when she runs into him at a gala sometime afterward! Now.... what does this sound like to you?Well, according to the author it's suddenly LOVE!!!Sadly, that really is all we get out of this "relationship" Both characters are now hopelessly in love... At least that is what we are told. There is absolutely NO understanding or growth in the relationship. NOTHING that gives a reader even a hint at how they got to that point. AND... she continues to cling desperately and accept anything she can from him without any explanation at all. Honestly it reads more like an emotional problem on her part.Cole... Now he could have been an interesting character - IF we had anyway of knowing him. There are only two small parts in the entire book from his POV and the author gives absolutely no clue into what the heck he is thinking or why throughout the book. Especially in the most important aspect, why does he love her?!?!? OR even like her for that matter? There is not ONE SINGLE reference to his reasons.SOPE. That's it, folks. frustrating beyond belief with a heroine that seriously needs therapy. Even the mafia portion was underdeveloped. Potential for a great story that ended up left in the wake of getting to the finish-line. Not my favorite, but it was decent. I felt there wasn't enough scenes with Cole and Addison. So the connection between them was minimal. Maybe Reading Carter Reed spoiled me, but Cole was not as intense as Carter. The first few scenes, Cole was this intense mafia king, but then that just faltered as I kept reading. Few things that bugged me, Sia was a horrible best friend, not enough scenes with Cole and Addison, and Liam was mentioned throughout the entire book. Addison never truly moved on and Cole lived in the shadow of that. Tijan is one of my favorite authors, but this book wasn't as amazing as her other ones.
