Werlinger's books always have the teeniest, tiniest bit of business that you read and think, 'maybe that could really happen'. I have never had any reason to think it couldn't.Kathleen and Molly have made their life together on Little Sister Island. Together with their friends and both their chosen and biological families, they try to get to the bottom of the mystery of the storms around the island, which are preceded by what appears to be an earthquake.There is something for everyone in this book. If you're interested in genealogy, it's in this book. If you want to know more about Native American myth, it's here, too. There is a mysterious woman who makes herself known to Irene and Meredith in their dreams - all the way over in Oregon!I'm tempted to say that when Caren Werlinger writes a book, I'm automatically going to give it 5 stars just because it's going to be that good. This book is that good. It's the growing of a second generation, if you will, of Little Sister Island inhabitants, with some of the same residents you met in "When the Stars Sang".You come to care about each of these characters as if they were old friends. I was enchanted with the Island and the people there, all over again! This is one of those rare books that puts the magic back into reading. It is wonderfully written and grabs not only your mind and heart but it pushes deep into your very soul. The island of Little Sister is what life should be and it is a wonderful place to visit. This is truly a love story but not necessarily in the romantic sense. All of the characters (and there are many) are so perfectly and profoundly described and are right where they should be within this story. I loved each and every one of them. There is some drama here just like in everyday life. Just like in the real world lives are changed, people are changed, ideas are challenged. There is that touch of mysticism that is interspersed in the pages that will make you say "WOW". I would very highly recommend reading this book so that you can experience all it has to give. Thank you to Caren Werlinger for bringing some magic into my life.
